How to Inspire Yourself for a Great Day & Year!
If you‘re reading this Dot Bubble article, you’re a part of this amazing Polka Dot Powerhouse community and you know the value it brings to women! It’s a source of support, empowerment, inspiration and growth! You attend meetings to surround yourself with like-minded women who cheer you on when you’re celebrating something wonderful, or to give you a hug when you’re going through a tough time! You know they will lift you up and you’ll leave the meeting feeling connected and energized!
But most days you’re on your own! You’re alone with your thoughts, dreams and goals! There’s no one excitedly cheering you on when the alarm says……… Wake up! Besides, that would be kind of weird anyway. In fact, there is someone who could cheer you on, and that is YOU!
But most of the time you are on autopilot. You wake up and automatically start thinking about your to-do list, what happened yesterday, how there could be traffic, read emails and social media, decide if you really want to go to the gym, or go back to sleep and so on. Your thinking is often habitual. You think the same things the same way every morning. Too many times these habitual thoughts can cause you stress before you even get out of bed!
So how do you break out of this habitual loop to inspire and empower yourself each day?
Here are a few rituals and processes I’ve used to empower myself,to be happier and to get excited about my life each day!
The one that helped the most was creating a morning mindset ritual. This is something you can do too. It can set the tone of your day and take you off your autopilot!
Creating this morning ritual will not add to your to-do list! You can be thinking these thoughts as you get out of bed, brush your teeth and take a shower. When you change the focus of your thoughts, you create the day you really want!
This ritual starts the moment you wake up. Be present in the moment and feel the warmth of the blankets and your relaxed body. Become aware of what you’re thinking and then choose what you want to focus on. It only takes 17 seconds to create a positive or negative momentum of thought, so why not create a positive one! Instead of thinking about your to- do list or checking emails, you could feel grateful for all that you have in your life! You have a roof over your head, money in the bank to pay your bills, a healthy body and a family! You realize that you have so much to be thankful for and it continues the momentum of good feelings! You’re focusing on all that’s good in your life, instead of what’s not working. This momentum can make a huge difference in your day!
Even if something happens that derails you, like sick children, traffic, power outages, a huge storm, you will handle the situation with more ease. You’ll be able to identify solutions due to your positive momentum.
You see, stress is like a terrorist attack on your brain! Many times, you just react to the situation and your mind freezes up! All you can think about is the problem and how it’s going to blow up your day! When you’re in a more relaxed and calmer place (positive momentum) you are more likely to breathe and start thinking of solutions. There is usually way more solutions than you think. Yet, in a place of a high emotional reaction, it can be hard to think clearly. Calm and relaxed is a beautiful place to be to find solutions!
Meditation can be an awesome addition to your morning ritual too. I can see some of you running out of the room with your arms up, yelling “I don’t have time for that!” But hear me out! You don’t have time not to meditate and quiet yourself down at the beginning of your day or sometime during your day.
There are numerous benefits such as, reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, clearer thinking etc. Through meditation you learn how to close out the outer world to connect with who you truly are. It helps you tap into your inner wisdom, peace, love, tranquility and confidence. How would that be for you to tap into those resources that are waiting for you each day! What if it helped you with ideas for your business or gave you the next best steps to take in your life! The answers to your questions are within you! It takes quieting your mind to hear them!
Meditation is like other things you start to do. It takes consistent practice. You’ll want to start with 5 minutes each day and then work your way up to 15-20 minutes. This will help you get used to quieting your mind and focusing on your breathing. Yes, everyone who starts meditating for the first time is challenged with “Monkey Mind.” Your mind wants to think about all the things you need to do in the day. This is where practice comes in. The more you do it, the easier it becomes to focus your mind and to relax!
You can also find many meditations online and meditation apps. I love guided mediations myself. The Chopra Center has 21-day free meditations online. This could be a great way to get introduced to meditation. There are a lot of ways to meditate, so take a look at what’s out there and see what resonates with you.
Another way to empower yourself is to journal your thoughts each morning. Ahhh…I hear some of you running out of the room yelling again about not having time for this! Actually, this process helps you save time by being less scattered and overwhelmed with your to-do list.
I created a journal for my clients so they could continue their positive momentum and productivity throughout the rest of their day. I’m sure many of you use productivity journals or calendars to create a productive day to reach your personal and business goals too.
Here are some of the segments in my journal that make a difference for me to keep my mindset and energy moving up throughout the day.
• An affirmation that focuses on what you want and how you want to feel
• What you are grateful for?
• Top 3-4 priorities (Focus on the most important activities that will help you move forward and reach your life and business goals)
• What do you need to let go of? (fear, worry, anger) These things can get in the way of getting things done
• How do you want to feel? (I love this one!) This is where you choose how you want to actually feel!)
• What were your successes for the day? (What you focus on expands, so focus on what’s working so more good will show up!)
These segments help you focus your mind on what you want, how you want to feel and what you want to accomplish.
Here’s a simple process to help you keep a positive mindset. It’s called pivoting. I learned this from my coach, Christie Whitman. This is a process you can use anytime you’re feeling stressed, need clarity or want to get centered. Ask yourself these three questions:
What do I want?
Why do I want it?
How do I want to feel?
This process will help you get present in the moment, and gain clarity on what’s important. It takes the focus off the issue or problem. When you focus on the problem, you’re focusing on the lack of what you want and it creates a negative momentum.
One of my clients put these three questions on her computer screen at work. This helped her create clear intentions for each day. By doing this simple process her days flowed much better, she had fewer problems and more good things showed up for her each day. She believed she had the power to create the day she wanted, so she did. You too can create a positive momentum for your day with this technique!
I encourage you to try some of the processes I‘ve shared and see if you feel more empowered and inspired each day! You have the power to create the life and business you desire. It’s up to you on how and what you choose to focus on. You are the only one who can create it! You are in charge!
I wish you a sensational year!
